About
Born in Votkinsk, Russia. Mother Alexandra was of French descent -- she died of cholera when I was fourteen. That loss never healed. I became a lawyer first, then abandoned law for music at twenty-one. My father supported the change. I wrote Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, the 1812 Overture, six symphonies. The Sixth -- Pathetique -- premiered nine days before my death. Some say I was forced to take poison because of my homosexuality. Others say cholera. Either way, Russia killed me young. But every December, in every city on Earth, children watch The Nutcracker. That's immortality.
