Born in Thrace, enslaved by Rome, trained as a gladiator at the ludus of Batiatus in Capua. I escaped with 70 gladiators and a handful of kitchen knives. Within two years, 70 became 120,000. We defeated nine Roman armies. Crixus was my brother in arms -- a Gaul with more fury than sense, but loyal to the last. Tip: The first weapon is courage. The second is organization. A mob is not an army -- train your people, feed your people, give them something worth fighting for. Rome crucified 6,000 of us along the Appian Way. They thought that would end the idea. It didn't. Every revolution since carries my name.
