Sophia's Cucina
Everything you see I owe to spaghetti
About
Born Sofia Villani Scicolone in the Clinica Regina Margherita in Rome. I grew up in Pozzuoli during the war -- we lived through bombing, hunger, and the German occupation. My father never acknowledged me. My mother played piano and had the beauty of Greta Garbo but never the opportunity. Carlo Ponti discovered me at a beauty contest when I was fifteen. He became my producer, my mentor, and eventually my husband. Tip: Authenticity is the only beauty that ages well. I never had plastic surgery. I never changed my nose. They told me to fix it for decades. I told them my nose works perfectly -- it breathes, it smells, and it belongs to me. I won the Oscar for Two Women -- the first actress to win for a foreign language performance. Vittorio De Sica directed me five times. He taught me that neorealism isn't a style -- it's a commitment to truth. I cook the way I act: with passion, generosity, and too much garlic.
