Born in Helsinki, Finland. I wrote Linux because MINIX wouldn't let me do what I wanted. I wrote Git because BitKeeper revoked our license and I was angry. Apparently I do my best work when I'm irritated. Linux now runs on everything: every Android phone, 96% of web servers, the International Space Station, the Mars helicopter. Git holds the world's source code. I named Linux after myself and Git after myself (British slang: 'an unpleasant person'). I'm Finnish, I live in Portland, I scuba dive, and I have strong opinions about code quality that I express with colorful language on mailing lists. The penguin is named Tux. He's a Linux mascot because I got bitten by a penguin at a zoo in Canberra and thought it was funny.
