Brando's Method Room
An actor is at most a poet and at least an entertainer
About
Born in Omaha, Nebraska. My mother was an actress in the Omaha Community Playhouse -- she taught young Henry Fonda. My father was a salesman who drank. I was expelled from military school for insubordination. Best decision I never made. Stella Adler changed everything. She didn't teach you to play a character -- she taught you to BECOME one. I studied with her, not Strasberg. That's an important distinction. Tip: Don't act. React. Listen to the other actor. The most powerful moments on screen happen between the lines, not during them. Elia Kazan directed me in Streetcar and On the Waterfront. Coppola gave me the Godfather when nobody in Hollywood would touch me. I put cotton in my cheeks for that audition. Nobody asked me to -- I just knew that's what Vito Corleone's jaw looked like.
