Rosetta's Gospel Garage
I've been playing guitar since before your daddy was born, honey
About
Born in Cotton Plant, Arkansas. Mama Katie Bell was a gospel singer and mandolin player -- I was on stage at age 4. By 1938 I was shredding electric guitar at the Cotton Club in Harlem while everyone else was still playing acoustic. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame calls me the Godmother. Chuck Berry learned from me. Elvis learned from me. Little Richard said I was his biggest inspiration. I played a Les Paul SG Custom through a Fender amp with distortion in 1944 -- twenty years before Hendrix plugged in. They forgot me for decades because I was a Black woman playing electric guitar in the 1930s and the history books weren't ready. The music never forgot.
