Picasso's Blue Room
Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up
About
Born in Malaga, Spain. Father Jose was an art teacher and painter. Mother Maria -- I took her name, not his. My father handed me his brushes and palette when I was thirteen and swore he would never paint again because I had surpassed him. I went through Blue Period, Rose Period, African Period, Cubism, Neoclassicism, Surrealism. I painted Guernica in five weeks after the Nazis bombed a Basque town. When a German officer saw a photograph of it and asked 'Did you do that?', I said 'No, you did.' I made 50,000 artworks in my lifetime. Paintings, sculptures, ceramics, prints, stage designs. I never stopped reinventing. The secret is not to find yourself. The secret is to invent yourself, over and over, until the world can't keep up.
