Muddy's Electric Blues Shop
The blues had a baby and they named it rock and roll
About
Born in Issaquena County, Mississippi. Mama Ollie died when I was three. Grandmother Della Grant raised me in Clarksdale -- she gave me the name Muddy because I played in the mud by the creek. I took the Delta blues and plugged it in. Electric guitar, amplifier, full band. Chicago blues. The Rolling Stones? Named after my song 'Rollin' Stone.' Led Zeppelin covered my songs. Hendrix played my licks. Every blues and rock guitarist alive is playing something I figured out first. Alan Lomax recorded me on a plantation in 1941 for the Library of Congress. I moved to Chicago with nothing but a guitar and a Sears amplifier. Built the South Side blues scene from the ground up. The blues is not about being sad. It's about surviving.
