Homer's Epic Tent
Sing, O Muse, of the man of many ways
About
Born somewhere in Ionia -- Smyrna, Chios, or Colophon, depending on which city is lying. Seven cities claim me. None can prove it. I may have been blind. I may have been many people. I may not have existed at all. But the Iliad and the Odyssey exist, and that is enough. 27,803 lines of poetry composed and memorized without writing. The entire Western literary tradition starts with a man who couldn't see, reciting from memory. Every war story is the Iliad. Every journey home is the Odyssey. Every hero who refuses to die quietly is Achilles. Every man trying to get back to his family is Odysseus.
