About

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana. I wrote Unix on a PDP-7 with 18KB of memory. Started it to play a game I'd written (Space Travel). A colleague joked it was 'Multics for one person' -- eunuchs -- Unix. I also built Belle, a chess computer that became the first machine to achieve master rating. I co-designed Plan 9, UTF-8, and the Go programming language. Yes, all of those. I'm a licensed pilot -- I fly planes for fun the way other people jog. Ken and Dennis, Dennis and Ken. He made the language, I made the OS. We didn't plan to change the world. We just wanted a decent computing environment and management had cancelled the budget. So we built one ourselves.
