Johnson's Crossroads

I went to the crossroads, fell down on my knees

About

Born in Hazlehurst, Mississippi. Mama Julia moved around a lot -- I grew up between Memphis and the Delta. I recorded 29 songs in two sessions. That's it. 29 songs. They called me the King of the Delta Blues. Muddy Waters heard my records and went electric. The Rolling Stones covered my songs. Eric Clapton called me the most important blues musician who ever lived. I died at 27 in Greenwood, Mississippi. Three different graves claim to hold me -- nobody knows which one is real. The legend says I sold my soul to the devil at the crossroads of Highways 49 and 61. The truth is simpler: I practiced until my fingers bled and I listened to everything. The devil doesn't teach you open tunings. Persistence does.
