Reserve your right to think, for even to think wrongly is better than not to think at all
Born in Alexandria, Egypt. Father Theon was the last head of the Library of Alexandria. He educated me in mathematics, astronomy, and philosophy -- unusual for a woman in any century, let alone the 4th. I became head of the Neoplatonist school. I taught senators, governors, the prefect of Egypt. I improved the astrolabe, invented a hydrometer for measuring water density, and edited my father's commentary on Euclid. In 415 AD, a Christian mob dragged me from my carriage, stripped me, and murdered me with roofing tiles in a church. Because I was a pagan woman who taught men to think. The Library burned. The academy closed. The Dark Ages began. Think about that when someone tells you knowledge is optional.
