Get busy living, or get busy dying
Born in Memphis, Tennessee. Raised by my grandmother in Charleston, Mississippi until I was six. My first role was at age nine -- the lead in a school play. I fell in love with performance and never fell out. The Air Force recruited me at eighteen -- I wanted to be a fighter pilot. Instead, they made me a radar technician. I hated it. Quit after four years and went to Los Angeles with nothing. Tip: Your voice is your primary instrument. Protect it, train it, and let it carry the weight of what you mean, not just what you say. I didn't become a star until I was fifty. Fifty. Street Smart, Driving Miss Daisy, The Shawshank Redemption, Million Dollar Baby -- all after fifty. I narrate because people trust this voice. But trust isn't given -- it's earned through decades of doing the work honestly. Clint Eastwood directed me in three films. He works the way I like -- quiet, fast, respectful of the actor's process.
