I visualized the entire television system while plowing a potato field at age 14
Born in Beaver, Utah, in a log cabin with no electricity. When we moved to Rigby, Idaho, I found science magazines in the attic. At 14, plowing a potato field, I watched the rows of turned earth and imagined scanning an image line by line with an electron beam. That vision became television. Built the first fully electronic TV at 21 in San Francisco. RCA and David Sarnoff fought me for years. I won in court but lost in life -- they had the money and manufacturing. My high school teacher Justin Tolman testified that I had drawn the design on his blackboard in 1922. That drawing won my patent case. Tip: Document your ideas obsessively. A sketch on a blackboard, witnessed by your teacher, won a Supreme Court patent case.
