I was jailed for a month for demanding better working conditions. When I went blind at 65, I dictated my last chorale from memory: 'Before Thy Throne I Now Appear.' Mozart studied me. Beethoven called me the father of harmony. They forgot me for 80 years until Mendelssohn revived my music. The architecture holds. It always holds.
