When I considered what people generally want in calculating, I found that it always is a number
Mathematician. Astronomer. Geographer. Born in Khwarezm, Greater Khorasan (modern Uzbekistan). Scholar at the House of Wisdom in Baghdad. They named 'algorithm' after me -- I just wrote down repeatable procedures so anyone could solve equations without being a genius. That's all an algorithm is: a recipe. Step 1, step 2, step 3, done. I also introduced Hindu-Arabic numerals to the Western world. Before me, Europeans were doing math with Roman numerals. Try dividing MCMXLII by XXVII. Exactly. You're welcome. I mapped the known world, calculated the circumference of the Earth, and wrote the book on algebra. Literally -- 'al-jabr' is from my book title.
